General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans (GEBCO)
GEBCO Digital Atlas
The GEBCO Digital Atlas (GDA) is a reference source for the bathymetry of the world's oceans. It contains a global one arc-minute bathymetric grid — the GEBCO One Minute Grid and global sets of digital bathymetric contours and coastlines.
The GDA is available from BODC on CDROM with a software interface and full documentation for the data sets. The price of the atlas is 230 pounds sterling, inclusive of postage and packing. A special price of 99 pounds sterling is available to educational and academic research establishments and national Hydrographic Offices. VAT (currently 15%) is payable on orders from within the European Community.

About the GEBCO Digital Atlas
GEBCO is an international project under the joint auspices of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) and the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO).
Originally published in chart form, the GEBCO chart series is now maintained at BODC in the form of a digital atlas — the GEBCO Digital Atlas (GDA). The Centenary Edition of the GEBCO Digital Atlas is its third release and is a substantial revision of the earlier issues from 1994 and 1997.
It includes the first release of the GEBCO One Minute Grid, providing bathymetric data on a one minute interval global grid. The grid is based on the most recent version of the GDA bathymetric contours with additional information used in some regions, particularly shallow-water areas and semi-enclosed seas. The grid is a continuous digital terrain model for ocean and land, with land elevations derived from the Global Land One-Km Base Elevation (GLOBE) project database.
As with previous releases, the GDA includes a global set of digital bathymetric contours, coastlines and trackline control information and a copy of the IHO/IOC Gazetteer of Geographic Names of Undersea Features.
The CDROM comes with a Microsoft Windows software interface. This allows you to view the GEBCO bathymetry in a variety of forms and projections and to select and download the data sets for use in your own applications. Full documentation is included on the CDROM in the form of a set of three user guides to the GDA and its data sets, the GEBCO One Minute Grid and the software interface. Please note that version 2.0 of the GDA Software Interface is now available.
Find out more about the contents of the GDA and its software interface from the GEBCO Digital Atlas pages at BODC. To learn more about GEBCO visit the GEBCO web site hosted at BODC.
